Our Sourcing Ethos
What Fuels Our Coffee, and Our Conscience
At Sol Grind, coffee isn’t just fuel — it’s a ritual. And that ritual starts long before the beans hit your mug.
We’ve surfed coastlines, climbed granite, and shared morning brews with people across the world — from Caribbean farms to European cafés. Along the way, one thing became clear: the best coffee comes from relationships built on respect, quality, and shared intention — not just labels.
That’s why we take a different approach when it comes to certifications like organic, fair trade, or Rainforest Alliance. Those terms can be helpful, but they don’t always tell the full story.
Our Sourcing Philosophy
We don’t chase certifications — we chase meaning.
Sol Grind partners with roasters and importers who go deeper than labels. Here’s what matters to us:
Not All Farms Can Afford the Stamp
Certifications cost money. A lot of it. And that burden often falls hardest on small, independent farms — the ones we most want to support. Some of the most sustainable, ethical producers in the world don’t carry official labels because they simply can’t afford the fees.
Fair Trade Doesn’t Always Mean Fair Pay
Even with a Fair Trade label, many farmers still struggle to sell their beans at a premium. We work with partners who go beyond that standard — often paying 30% to 100% more than Fair Trade rates to ensure real impact.
Efficiency Can Be Sustainable
Organic isn’t always better. Some small farms use minimal resources and produce more beans per acre — reducing the need for deforestation. Sustainability is about smart choices, not just checkboxes.
Flavor First, Always
We’re on a mission to bring you coffee that tastes like something. By sourcing from micro-lots and smaller producers, we get to share bold, rare flavor profiles you won’t find in bulk-certified bags.
We believe in craft over certification.
The Bigger Picture
Coffee is a connection — to the people who grow it, the land that nurtures it, and the community that drinks it. At Sol Grind, we roast with purpose.
Every bean is chosen not just for how it’s grown, but how it makes you feel.
Because you don’t need a label to know what good coffee tastes like.
